Wildwood, 2000
I was seventeen in the summer of 2000, and I spent much of it on the Wildwood boardwalk. My family had a house at 213 East Davis Avenue, built by my uncles, still in the family. We'd go down every summer.
When I read the announcement for Lisa McGee’s Wildwood, I sat at my piano and thought back to those nights. This is what came out. It's the feeling of sitting on a bench, the ocean black in the background, the boardwalk bright and loud, watching a girl order soft serve at Kohr's, and wanting to, but not going over.
